The Atomic Tease!
Art Show Exhibit and Sale - At the Key Club in Hollywood and Online

The Atomic Tease – The Atomic Tease is a presentation
of the neo-burlesque movement, bringing together pin-up inspired art, burlesque
performance and music. What started
as an undercurrent in American counter culture is now seeping its way into mainstream
consciousness - and rapidly spreading through fine arts, music and theatrical productions. The neo-burlesque movement is informed
by classic burlesque elements of sexuality, satire, and counter culture – blended
with the low brow art scene, modern social and political themes, mid-century pin-up
art,
California
surfer/tiki culture and a splash of fantasy.
Join us for a night of paintings and pasties from contemporary artists and burlesque
performers emerging as some of the hottest stars of their generation!

About
Creative Tease Productions and Jessica Whiteside
This show is being produced by Creative Tease Productions and curated by artist
Jessica Whiteside. Creative Tease Productions
was founded to promote the neo-burlesque, pin-up art and retro-pop art movements
- and to produce events incorporating art, live music and burlesque performance. Jessica Whiteside is a graduate from
the Academy of Art University in
San Francisco
. She does professional illustration
work for a range of clients, and her fine art paintings have put her in the spotlight
in the neo-burlesque art scene. Jessica’s
art is partially autobiographical and decidedly feminine and original – not shying
away from themes of sexuality, cultural and political dissent, and modern female
viewpoints on a variety of subjects. Over
the past few years, her art has been exhibited in a growing number of solo and group
art exhibitions. In addition, she has
curated several exhibits, and currently runs the
San Francisco
chapter of the Dr. Sketchy’s workshop.
Jessica is also an active burlesque dancer, who has performed many group and solo numbers with The Hubba Hubba Revue, Bombshell Betty’s Burlesqueteers, Tease-O-Rama, Barbary Coast Burlesque and Monday Night Tease.
The
Neo-Burlesque Movement
The Neo-Burlesque scene has begun! - What started as an undercurrent in American
counter culture is now seeping its way into mainstream consciousness - and rapidly
spreading through fine arts, music and theatrical productions.
The neo-burlesque movement is informed by classic burlesque elements of sexuality,
satire, and counter culture – but blended with the “low brow” art scene, modern
social and political themes, mid-century pin-up art, retro American style, and a
splash of fantasy and surrealism. Another
distinction of this Neo-Burlesque movement is that these contemporary writers, artists
and performers are predominantly women.
Traditional pin up art used sexy images of women to promote subsidiary, domesticated
roles in mid-century advertising. This
new pin up art and neo-burlesque movement depicts sexuality, progressive feminism
and cultural ideology from the modern female perspective – breaking through taboos
and exposing contemporary female viewpoints to the masses.
In addition to being the on the forefront of this contemporary art movement,
these ladies of the neo-burlesque are giving the world a new idea of what it means
to be an artist. These girls are sassy entrepreneurs; some are burlesque performers;
they are the faces of ad campaigns for women in fashion magazines; musicians; producers;
writers; illustrators…and in a sense, pin-ups themselves. Their persona is as much
a part of the movement as their work.
